February 19, 2008--We lost our lovely broodmare Mickey to colic last night. An amazing mare, Mickey was as sound and as full of energy at age 24 as any young horse! Much learning and experience I have gained from this mare! Her strong, sometimes bossy exterior, along with her sweet and motherly heart of gold, will be greatly missed! REST IN PEACE Mickey 2nd.!

Mickey was our Trakehner/Thoroughbred and approved Canadian Sport Horse broodmare. At 24 yrs of age, she had all the spunk of a three yr. old! Mickey was a fabulous producer for Clear-enk Stables and all have gone on to loving, competitive homes (Lormick, Impulse, Ilsa, Pacific Wonder and Magiek) (Valileo is a keeper and Mynieka is for sale). Mickey is by the Trakehner stallion Ethos, who is by Patron. Mickey's offspring are highly athletic, and have excellent conformation and movement!

Mickey's type of colic:

A type of colic that is associated with older horses is strangulation of the intestine by a pedunculated lipoma. This is a fatty lump that grows on a stalk in the horse's abdomen and, in some horses, will wrap tightly around a loop of intestine preventing the blood supply from reaching the gut. When this happens the gut dies within a matter of hours.
